About
I live on a farm in Elgin, South Africa. It wasn’t always like that. My wife, two nappy-clad boys and I were previously ensconced in the comfort and convenience of Cape Town’s southern suburbs. I yearned for adventure. We lived on the edge of a lagoon during the first Covid lockdown. I recall the intensity of being a CEO of a leading South African publishing business at the time. It was wild to lead over Zoom during that confusing southern hemisphere winter.
I swam regularly in a mountain pool that didn’t get sun during the winter months. I meditated. I spotted birds of prey on our one-minute walking commute. I delivered presentations on national news media, led organisational pivots, and dived into cash flow forecasts. We went paddling on the still lagoon under the moonlight. We just couldn’t go back to urban living.
I love South Africa. I love freedom. I’m constructing a life where I live in privacy, close to nature, with a location-agnostic career. I’ve worked in London, Dubai, Oman, Johannesburg, Tehran, Colorado, and California.
I lost my brother in 2011. He was my number one human. Grief has been my deepest teacher.
I have had two long seasons of psychotherapy. One on the transition to manhood in my late 20s. Another was when becoming a father in my 30s.
I’ve had a fortnightly coaching session for the last 5 years.
My men’s meditation and breathwork group meets for 2 hours, in person, every week, as well as two weekends away per year, and has done for nearly 4 years.
My entrepreneur group meets monthly for 2 hours.
Health is a priority for me, I love having a fit body.
My golf handicap is at its lowest ever at 13, but that’s okay.
I love plant medicine and journey with curious souls.
I have a mortgage. So that’s fun.
I have a certification as a Flow Consultant, a Strengths Finder Coach, and a certification in Coaching from the Centre for Coaching at the UCT Graduate School of Business.
